What “inside the monuments” really means
A promise of “guiding inside” needs more detail. Entering an estate, entering a palace room and providing commentary there are different things. Your operator's description must work with the monument's current rules and the ticket you choose.
Quinta da Regaleira: a specific restriction
The official visitor rules prohibit guided tours by external guides inside the Palace and the Initiatic Well. Ask where interpretation may take place and how the visit is organised around that restriction. Do not buy a promise of private commentary inside the Well.

Pena Palace: the ticket and the guide are separate questions
The official Pena ticket options distinguish self-guided visits from a guided experience delivered by Parques de Sintra. Booking a private day tour does not automatically book that official guided experience. Confirm your entry option, the areas included and who provides the interpretation.
If you choose an interior visit, follow the dated and timed entry conditions. Neither a private guide nor a prepaid ticket removes admission checks or guarantees a queue-free visit.
Ask the same question at every chosen stop
For any palace, garden or other attraction, ask where your guide can accompany you, what may be restricted and where you will meet again if part of the visit is independent. The useful promise is a clear arrangement for the places you choose.
Which option fits your visit?

Seven questions to ask before booking
- At each monument, where will the guide accompany us? Ask about grounds, rooms and independent sections, not simply “inside”.
- Who will guide us, and in which language? Confirm whether one person combines driving and guiding or whether different people handle parts of the day.
- Which tickets are included, and who buys them? Name the monuments, entry options and timings. “Arranged” and “included in the price” are different promises.
- Where does the tour begin and finish? Confirm your meeting point, pickup if needed, return and the hours of guiding.
- What fits the booked time? Agree priorities and how changes caused by weather, crowds or closures will be handled.
- What costs extra? Check meals, drinks, activities, transfers and any chosen upgrade against the final group total.
- Does the plan fit our group? Explain children's ages, walking limitations and other needs before confirming the route.
Ask for these arrangements in writing. It gives you something useful to compare and avoids discovering a different service at the entrance.
